Desalination - EU research results on poultice systems
An international colloquium to be held at the Cologne Institute of Conservation Science, Cologne University of Applied Sciences.
Poultice systems are often used in conservation for the treatment of salt problems, but their eff ectiveness can be diffi cult to predict. In response to this, a three year EU research project »Desalination«, was initiated to develop a methodology for optimising the performance of desalination poultices. The research focussed on the infl uence of poultice composition and application. The group also examined how poultice characteristics can be tailored to suit the requirements of individual objects. This meeting is intended as a forum to present these latest research fi ndings; and a fi rst step in transferring this knowledge to the practical arena to aid professionals working within stone, architectural and wall paintings conservation.
