Cette annonce arrive bien tardivement puisqu’elle se termine dans 3 jours. Mais comme elle émane du Rijksmuseum d’Amsterdam et que de surcroît elle est tout à fait alléchante, je n’hésite pas à vous en faire part.
The Rijksmuseum is the museum of the Netherlands. Its collection includes 1.1 million (art) objects from and about the Netherlands from the Middles Ages to the 20th century. An entirely new Rijksmuseum will open its doors to the public in 2013. Two million people are expected to visit the breathtaking building in the first year and enjoy its refreshing set-up, amazing exhibitions, exciting events and numerous amenable facilities for young and old.
For a conservation project in Turkey, the Conservation Department is looking for a:
Junior Paintings Conservator (f/m)
36 hours a week
as soon as possible
The Rijksmuseum and the Turkish Presidential Palace have concluded a collaboration agreement in the field of conservation, as part of which some of the paintings in the Presidential collection will be restored.
Job information
The Presidential painting collection chiefly consists of 19th and early 20th-century traditional oil paintings on canvas and panel by European Orientalists and Turkish artists.
45 paintings will undergo a conservation treatment and approximately half of them need to be fully treated. The conservation work will be very varied and may range from consolidating loose layers of paint to proper reframing, adding protection to the reverse or the edges of the frame, removing deformities, repairing tears in the canvases, removing old layers of varnish, touch-ups and any overpainting.
You will work closely with the painting conservator who has prepared the treatment proposals and time estimates in Turkey and who coordinates the project in Turkey, as well as with other junior conservators who will work on this project from the Rijksmuseum.
In addition to performing the conservation and restoration work in Turkey (Ankara), you are expected:
To conduct scientific research related to the restoration in collaboration with colleagues and/or a scientific researcher. The results of this will be documented in writing and in pictures.
To carefully document all treatments performed.
To (help) monitor the physical condition of the collection, so that any (imminent) deterioration is recognised in good time and corrective measures are or can be taken.
To be prepared to live in Turkey for the duration of the project, with work being done in Ankara and Istanbul.
Requirements
Academic training in conservation or training from SRAL (the Limburg Restoration Atelier Foundation) or a comparable international course in painting conservation
Experience in performing treatments and recording results
Knowledge of new techniques
Fluent spoken and written English
Good social and communication skills
Analytical mind and problem solver
Focused on personal development
Ethical in terms of moral conservation-related and aesthetic matters
Service-minded, flexible and able to deal with stress
Appointment
The painting conservator will be appointed for a one-year period. The conservator will be stationed in either Ankara or Istanbul.
Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience, the salary will range between €2.517,- (min.) and €3.295,- (max.) gross per month (scale 9) with a full working week of 36 hours, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus. The Presidential Palace will organise accommodation in either Istanbul or Ankara. An accommodation and travel expenses scheme applies, as does the collective agreement for privatised state museums.
