Recent progress in the consolidation of calcareous materials

The STONECORE consortium announces the conference:

“Recent progress in the consolidation of calcareous materials”

which will be held April 21 -22 , 2010 in Litomyšl, (Czech Republic)

It is the aim of the conference to present at the halftime of the FP-7 project „STONECORE - Stone Conservation for Refurbishment of Buildings” (www.stonecore-europe.eu) the obtained results and to discuss these with experts from outside of the consortium. 12 partners from 7 European countries have joined together in this project in order to find new approaches for the consolidation and conservation of natural and artificial stones.

Main subjects of the conference will be:
1. Materials for consolidation – development and testing of new materials for the consolidation of calcareous materials, mortar, stone and wall paintings.
2. Case studies
3. Non destructive damage assessment
The following topics are in the centre of interest:
- Development of nano-materials for stone, mortar and plaster consolidation.
- Application of calcium hydroxide nano-sols – recent results and challenges.
- New approaches for the consolidation of natural and artificial stone combined with new methods to characterise the consolidation process.
- Characterisation of fungal and algal growth on natural and artificial stone and possibilities of their removal.
- Use of ground penetration radar and ultrasonic measurements for damage assessment.
The conference is also aimed to discuss recent developments and concepts from outside of the consortium. Both oral and poster presentations are possible. Please submit your abstracts (one page) until March 15th, 2010 to the adress given below. All authors will be informed until March 31, 2010 about the acceptance of their contributions.
